Close to 9 million euro announced for local sports infrastructure

The funds have been earmarked for the Dermot Early Centre of Excellence in Roscommon and the Shannonside Recreational Campus in Leitrim.

Two major sports projects in Leitrim and Roscommon have been allocated state funding of almost 9 million euro.

Shannonside Recreational Campus is getting 3.3 million, under the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund.

The facility in Carrick-on-Shannon will include an athletics track, an AstroTurf pitch, sports arena, and a standard grass pitch.

Local Fine Gael TD Frank Feighan says the new funding will help the project go ahead as planned.

Roscommon GAA is getting 5.5 million for the Dermot Earley Centre of Excellence on the Racecourse Road in Roscommon town.
