Almost 6,000 people in the Shannonside region are getting disability allowance.
It's a 15 per cent increase on five years ago.
Disability Allowance is a weekly payment to people with a disability, aged between 16 and 66.
To qualify, you must have an injury, disease or physical or mental disability that has continued for at least a year, or is expected to continue for at least a year.
You must be restricted from work because of your disability, live in Ireland and pass a means test.
In the first three months of 2020, 5,160 people in the Shannonside region were getting the payment.
This increased to 5,916 in the first quarter of this year - with 1,322 in Leitrim, 2,064 in Longford, and 2,530 in Roscommon.
