A local councillor says he fears there may be further business closures in the region this year. Fianna Fáil's Seamus Butler believes the minimum wage increase and the auto-enrolment pension scheme may cause problems for local businesses.
The minimum wage increased to €14.15 per hour at the start of 2026 which is the second highest in Europe. Cllr Butler says he's concerned some businesses may decide to close this year as a result of increased costs:
