A major clean operation is underway to clear an area behind the former Magnet Ballroom in Strokestown.
Councillor Tom Crosby has highlighted years of indiscriminate dumping in the area which includes household waste, mattresses, and disregarded furniture.
As well as cleaning up the site, local authority has agreed to investigate the reported collapse of the rear of the building to establish whether it is now a dangerous structure and whether it be listed on the derelict sites register.

Councillor Crosby says that in cases like this, the registered owner must be held accountable and made pay for the costs of cleaning it up:
