Child dies after getting into difficulty at Sligo beach

It comes just a week after two teenagers drowned after following a ball into the sea, in County Donegal.

A young boy has died after getting into difficulty in the water at Lissadell beach in County Sligo.

It comes just a week after two teenagers drowned after following a ball into the sea, in County Donegal.

Emergency services were called to Sligo's Lissadell Beach yesterday afternoon and the child was airlifted by Coast Guard helicopter, 'Rescue 118', to Sligo University Hospital, where he has since passed away.

The tragic incident comes just one week after two teenagers died after getting into trouble in the water in Co Donegal.

16 year old Emmanuel Familola, and 18 year old Matt Sibanda, were playing football in Buncrana last weekend when they got into difficulty after following their ball into the sea.

Emmanuel was laid to rest following a funeral in Buncrana yesterday morning, while Matt's funeral mass is being held next week.

Water Safety organisations are today renewing their appeals for caution on and around open water, while the current warm spell continues.
