The mother of two was well-known and liked in Gowna Village.

The woman who died in a drowning tragedy on the Longford-Cavan border has been named locally.

Nathasha Core, who was living in Gowna Village, died following an incident at Loch Gowna lake on Wednesday night.

It's understood that the mother of two went to the aid of her son who was swimming in the lake just after 9pm.

However, Ms Core then herself got into difficulty and the alarm was raised.

After a search of the lake involving local Civil Defence and emergency services, her body was discovered 15-20 yards from the shoreline at around 9.30pm.

A post mortem on her remains is due to take place this afternoon.
