Carrick on Shannon Chamber of Commerce is appealing to people based in Dublin to stay away until Level 3 restrictions are lifted.

Chief Executive Paul O'Brien says case numbers in Leitrim have stabilised over the past number of days and they want to do their best to keep it that way.

He said that while there was huge traffic in Carrick-on-Shannon over the weekend, he believes a lot of it was passing through to head further west.

It follows weekend reports of a significant number of hen and stag parties taking place in Leitrim.

Mr O'Brien said he himself cancelled meetings he had scheduled in Dublin last week in order to follow guidelines and that he is aware of accommodation providers who contacted visiting parties who were due to travel to explain that they would have to cancel.
