Cameras must be used to catch fly tippers in the act according to a North Longford councillor. Councillor David Cassidy made the call following the dumping of close to one hundred bottles of burnt oil at a popular amenity this week. The bottles were discovered at the entrance to the Edenmore Bog trail near Ballinamuck village today, a 4.5km walkway used year round by many year.
Dumped oil can cause serious environmental damage when introduced to the watertable. A county council environmental crew attended the scene today and removed the items. Councillor Cassidy has called for harsher penalties for those caught in the act:
