A local councillor has called on the Local Authority to introduce a pilot community car programme in Longford. Councillor David Cassidy brought the motion to the May Meeting of Longford County Council this week and urged the executive to liaise with Kildare Leader Partnership, who run a similar programme. Councillor Cassidy says the initiative in Kildare is a partnership between GoCar, the HSE, the Department of Social Protection and the County Council which could easily be replicated in Longford.
The proposed service would provide free essential transport for those facing mobility challenges reach hospital treatments, important appointments and important community events. The Fianna Fail Councillor received unanimous support for the motion from across the chamber, with the executive confirming that they would now contact Kildare Leader Partnership.
