Building work will get under way on 51 houses in south Roscommon by September.
They'll be based at Slí An Choiste in Monksland and will be a combination of two and three-bedroom homes.
South Roscommon councillors gave them planning permission earlier this year.
Local Fianna Fáil councillor John Keogh says the houses are badly needed:
