The British Ambassador to Ireland will officially open the Maria Edgeworth Festival in Longford later today. Her Excellency Kara Owen will preside over the launch at 12 noon in Edgeworthstown Library. This year's event celebrates the 30th anniversary of the festival with a programme of events taking place across the weekend.
It will conclude on Sunday with the annual 18th Mostrim Tea Party. Matt Farrell is the volunteer manager at the Maria Edgeworth Centre in Edgeworthstown. He says this year's event will see a special collaborative exhibition go on display:
