'Boxer' welcomes Athlone's Living City status

It's one of five towns included alongside Drogheda, Dundalk, Letterkenny and Sligo.

Athlone is to be added to the Living City Initiative. Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe made the announcement as part of Budget 2026. The Living City Initiative (LCI) is a tax incentive scheme to assist and encourage people to live in the historic inner-city areas of large towns and cities. Athlone is one of five towns included alongside Drogheda, Dundalk, Letterkenny and Sligo. Local TD, Kevin 'Boxer' Moran says the initiative will have a have positive impact locally:
