Body found following Athlone rescue operation

A rescue operation on the River Shannon in Athlone has concluded after the discovery of a man's body. Emergency services were called at about 7.30 this morning near The Quay in Athlone town after reports a man had entered the water.

Athlone Gardaí, the sub-aqua unit, and the Coast Guard helicopter had been conducting a rescue operation on the river since. Gardaí say a body has been found in the past 15 minutes.
