An appeal was lodged by a third party yesterday to An Coimisiún Pleanála.

Roscommon County Council's decision to grant planning permission for a new Aldi store in Boyle has been appealed to An Coimisiún Pleanála.

The German supermarket chain applied for planning permission to build the supermarket and refurbish five houses on Patrick Street.

Roscommon County Council granted planning permission, subject to 36 conditions, last month.

But an appeal has been lodged by Brian O'Sullivan, with an address in Kilcormac, Co Offaly, to An Coimisiún Pleanála.

The higher planning authority will now decide in the coming months whether or not to reverse the council's decision.

An Coimisiún Pleanála is due to make a decision by June 22nd of this year.
