Bias in settled community leading to sense of hopelessness in travellers according to local activist

Travellers are regularly refused jobs outright due to their ethnicity despite their qualifications, according to the former election candidate.

The settled community need to fully commit to meaningful changes when it comes to their treatment of the Traveller Community according to a local activist.

Julia O'Leary-O'Reilly says inherent bias among the settled community is sabotaging any positive change.

According to the former Longford/Westmeath election candidate, members of the travelling community are being locked out of opportunities due to their ethnicity.

Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show today, Julia says many young travellers feel like no matter what their qualifications or history, they'll be refused jobs and opportunities because of who they are.

She says this is leading to a sense of hopelessness among the travelling community:
