Aldi wants to build the supermarket and refurbish five houses on Patrick Street in Boyle.

The discovery of bats on the site of a proposed Aldi supermarket in Roscommon shouldn't be a 'death knell' for the project.

That's according to local Fianna Fáil councillor Sean Moylan, who says the result of an Ecological Assesment was a setback.

Aldi wants to build the supermarket and refurbish five houses on Patrick Street in Boyle.

Roscommon County Council had sought more information before making a decision.

Aldi submitted an Ecological Impact Assessment, prepared by Altemar Marine and Environmental Consultancy.

It found the proposed development would result in the loss of a roost for five bats.

The council is due to decide whether to grant planning permission on January 22nd.
