Ballagh residents worried proposed energy plant could cause fire

Roscommon County Council is due to decide in January whether to give it planning.

Ballaghaderreen residents are expressing concern there could be a fire if a new energy development gets the go-ahead.

Grid System Services is looking for planning for a energy storage system at Ballyoughter.

It would involve 44 battery blocks and 11 transformer and inverter units, which would connect to a nearby electricity substation.

Roscommon County Council is due to decide in January whether to give it planning.

Local resident Jimmy Cogan is one of those opposing it - he's concerned about a fire.

Jimmy says there are other more suitable locations for the plant, but not the current proposed site.
