A mural will be launched in Ballaghaderreen today in remembrance of the abolition of corporal punishment. It's on the former De La Salle Brothers School - which is now the town's Family Resource Centre.
Corporal punishment was scrapped by then Education Minister John Boland in 1982. His daughter, Fine Gael TD Grace Boland, will launch the mural today at 2 o'clock. She says her father met with resistance to the move back in the 80s:
