Aurivo is investing twelve million euro in a major green energy upgrade at its Dairy Ingredients facility in Ballaghaderreen.
The Aurivo Co-operative Society has announced plans to install a first-of-its-kind wood pellet burner and boiler system, marking a significant step in its move towards decarbonisation.
Co-funded through the Shared Island Sustainability Capital Grant scheme, delivered by Enterprise Ireland, InterTradeIreland and Invest Northern Ireland, the project will replace a large portion of fossil fuel use on site.
Once operational, the system is expected to cut carbon emissions by around seven thousand five hundred tonnes annually.
The facility will use locally sourced, sustainably certified wood pellets, supporting regional suppliers and strengthening the all-island economy.
Aurivo says the investment will also bring greater energy cost stability and support jobs across construction and the wider supply chain.
The move is being described as a major step forward in both sustainability and the long-term competitiveness of Ireland's dairy sector.
Local Cllr Micheál Frain feels it's a positive development for the region:
