An Athlone medical company has applied for permission for retention of planning at a former bank building in the town.
The Institute of Eye Surgery in Athlone is seeking the permission for the former Permanent TSB building on Mardyke Street.
The application includes retention permission for the change of use of the ground floor and basement of former bank building to a medical clinic and offices.

Also included is retention for new signage, refurbishment and upgrade of basement level facilities and the provision of a medical waste storage area.
Retention planning permission is when an application is made to retain already constructed upgrades or buildings.
A decision on the application is expected at the end of May.
