Archbishop of Tuam Francis Duffy has been appointed as the Bishop of Killala.
The Cavan native has been holding the position of Apostolic Administrator of Killala for almost two years before his recent appointment.
The decision results in the Diocese of Killala and the Archdiocese of Tuam being united under the same Bishop.

It paves the way for the formal amalgamation of the two dioceses.
