Ballaghaderreen locals are confident the town's cathedral won't be downgraded, after a bishop was appointed for the area at the weekend.
The Diocese of Achonry had been without a bishop for almost a year until Kevin Doran got the job yesterday.
He's staying on as Bishop of Elphin, which is in the process of merging with Achonry.
Local councillor Micheál Frain says he's no longer worried about the status of St Nathy's Cathedral.
