A planning application for a permanent flood-relief scheme for south Roscommon is on course to be lodged by the end of the year.
The OPW Minister has provided the update after meetings this week.
Flooding has been a regular occurrence around Lough Funshinagh in recent years.
There has been record water levels and significant impacts on local communities.
OPW Minister Kevin 'Boxer' Moran says Roscommon County Council has developed a three-pronged approach to address the flood problem.
The first two parts are in place - an interim flood-relief scheme and individual measures to protect at-risk homes.
Work is now ongoing on a permanent flood-relief scheme.
Minister Moran says he met the council and local politicians in Roscommon town on Monday, where he says he was briefed on progress.
He is now confirming a planning application for the long-term scheme is scheduled to be submitted to An Coimisiún Pleanála in late 2026.
