The appealed development of 245 houses in Mullingar has been given the go-ahead by the higher planning authority.
An Bord Pleanála reviewed the planning application, which had been lodged, granted and appealed two times in just over 12 months.
Planning was granted to Andrews Construction Limited to construct 245 houses on the Dublin Road at Petitswood.
It is set to be comprised of 70 four-bed homes, 132 three-bed houses, and a mix of duplexes and apartments with roof-mounted solar panels.
As part of the plans, the applicants have included a childcare facility, 442 car parking spaces, 550 bike spaces and close to 1.75 hectares of open space.
The open space will include a biodiversity corridor and all associated hard and soft landscaping.
Plans for the development were initially approved, but were appealed over traffic concerns on the road and the lack of amenities in the area to facilitate the development.
New plans lodged towards the end of 2024 make a number of revisions and were sent to the higher planning authority again.
The development has now been granted permission from An Bord Pleanála, with revised conditions.
These stipulate that the developer must submit a detailed Construction and Environmental Management Plan, and that alternative arrangements must be put in place for pedestrians and vehicles in the case of a road closure to facilitate the works.
The higher planning authority has also instructed the developer to monitor the levels of noise, dust, and vibration on site during construction.
