A Longford councillor has described Cian McPhillips' fourth place finish in the World Athletics Championships as "an amazing achievement".
The Ardagh man, 23, just missed out on a medal in the 800m in Tokyo, but set a new national record of 1 minute, 42.15 seconds.
Hundreds of people watched the race in the Longford Athletics Centre.
It was the first time ever that a Longford athlete made a final in the history of these championships.
Speaking in Longford Athletics Centre, Fianna Fáil councillor Uruemu Adejinmi said she was proud of McPhillips' performance:
