Close to €900,000 has been secured for tourism projects across the region. Fáilte Ireland has announced the funding, which comes as part of a broader €2.3 million allocation to 18 midlands projects. The allocation is part of the EU Just Transition Fund programme, and the most recent announcement is its third under the Private and Community SME scheme. Over €565,000 has been awarded to Co. Longford under the scheme. This includes just over €288,000 earmarked for Clonbrin Farm Accommodation Ltd, which will cover the development of 3 self-catering units in repurposed farm buildings, as well as the purchase and provision of bicycles to visitors. Parts of the allocation will also go towards the restoration of a derelict 1850s Corn Mill at Clynan Mill Ltd in Co. Longford, to be refurbished into a 4-bedroom self-catering accommodation property.
Meanwhile in Co. Roscommon, just under €30,000 will cover the enhancement of Castlecoote’s Gone Fishing and the upgrade of exhibitions and facilities at the Rathcroghan Visitor Centre. While €300,000 has been allocated to Lough Ree Tours in Co. Westmeath for the purchase of a refitted second-hand vessel to facilitate guided boat tours on the River Shannon and Lough Ree. The Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment has confirmed that further projects are expected to be announced under this scheme in the coming weeks.
