Co. Roscommon experienced one of the most significant declines in the country, at a decrease of 32.3 per cent since 2005.

The county had 82 fewer pubs than it did 19 years ago, and according to the report, 172 pubs were open in the county in 2024, down from 254 in 2005.

This is followed by Co. Longford, which marked a decrease of 30.1 per cent since 2005, going from 113 to 79.

A total of 28.6 per cent of pubs have closed in Co Leitrim during that timeframe, going from 140 to 100.

Nationally, the lowest decrease was in Dublin with a drop of 1.7 per cent.

Commenting on the findings, the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland said the high cost of doing business was a major contributory factor to the alarming rate of closures recorded by the report.
