There are only 55 Gardaí working in roads policing across the Shannonside region.
The figure was revealed in a Freedom of Information request submitted by MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú.
This includes 41 in the Mayo-Roscommon-Longford Garda division, and only 14 in Sligo-Leitrim.

Nationally, there are currently 649 gardaí working in roads policing - down from just over a thousand in 2009.
