46pc increase in local drivers given EV grants last year

Tarmonbarry councillor Tom Crosby says the grants should be higher to incentivise people to switch.

The number of drivers in the Shannonside region who got grants for electric vehicles, increased by 46 per cent last year.

A total of 256 people in Roscommon, Longford and Leitrim got grants of up to €3,500 last year.

That's up from 175 in 2024, according to figures from Transport Minister Darragh O'Brien.
