19 commencement notices have been issued in the Shannonside region so far this year.
That's one of the findings from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, which has published its monthly figures.
A Commencement Notice is a notification to a Building Control Authority that a person intends to carry out works or a Material Change of Use under the Building Regulations.
The notice must be given between 14 and 28 days before starting the works or change of use.
Once validated by the authority, works must commence on site within the 28-day period.
In January, there were 10 in Longford, 8 in Roscommon, while in Leitrim, there was just one.
Data shows that over 2,000 commencement notices for new homes were lodged in January.
