1.6 million euro in funding allocated for books to local schools

Roscommon received the highest allocation locally.

Over 1.6 million euro in funding has been allocated to national and special schools in the Shannonside region.

The money will provide free schoolbooks to pupils within the free education scheme from September 2023.

Roscommon received the highest allocation locally at just over 770,000 euro while Longford will benefit from almost 510,000.

368,000 euro has been allocated for Leitrim schools.

The scheme will benefit more than 558,000 pupils nationally in approximately 3,230 primary schools, including over 130 special schools.

Schools will receive €96 in respect of each pupil enrolled, with the scheme involving a total spend of almost 54 million euro.
