Former Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan has been paying tribute to Athlone's Paddy Cooney following his death.
The Fine Gael politician held several ministerial jobs in the 1970s and 80s, including justice and defence.
He died on Saturday at the age of 94, after a short illness.
His funeral Mass is taking place in St Mary's Church, Athlone, on Thursday morning at 10.30.
