St. Faithleach’s kicked off their 2025 Roscommon football championship stunning county champions Padraig Pearses writes Aaron Kelly.
Sean Canning and Ronan Daly had Pearse’s in front with the first two scores of the day. However, Pearses kicked a lot of wides while dominating the early possession.
Brian Murtagh got Faithleach’s first score of the day after he got on the end of a through ball by Cian Glennon.
Hubert Darcy opened up the two point gap once again before Diarmuid Murtagh and Daniel McDermott brought Faithleach’s level as the clock crept over the 20-minute mark.
The sides exchanged scores twice before the interval, with Jack Nevin and Declan Kenny getting their first of the day for Pearse’s and David Rooney and Ciarain Murtagh opening their accounts for the day
Nevin gave Pearse’s the lead at the beginning of the second-half before Diarmuid Murtagh showed his class to convert the game’s first two-pointer.
After the sides exchanged scores once again, Darren Nerney gave Faithleach’s the lead back before Ciarain Murtagh extended said lead with a two-pointer of his own.
A fisted point from Jonathan Hussey was followed-up by a David Rooney goal to give Faithleach’s some daylight in the game.
Pearse’s continued to press and hit the post through Paul Carey but Faithleach’s seen it out to seal victory in their championship opener for 2025.
