A spirited Brigid’s display which seen Ruaidhri Fallon score a goal and six points wasn’t enough in a dramatic final.
A last ditch Mikey Geaney point clinched the Andy Merrigan Cup for the Kerry Champions.
Dingle started the stronger racing into a four point lead with points from Tom O’Sullivan and Niall Geaney either side of a Billy O’Connor two pointer.
Shane Cunnane got the first score of the afternoon for Brigid’s after nine minutes. Dylan Geaney responded immediately for Dingle.
Brigid’s then went on to dominate the next nine minutes, hitting six points without reply.
Ruaidhri Fallon, Brian Stack, Shane Cunnane, Conor Hand and Ben O’Carroll all registered points as the Roscommon champions moved into a two point lead.
Brigid’s led 0-7 to 0-5 after 22 minutes. Tadgh Browne got Dingles first score in 16 minutes when he fired over. Tom O’Sullivan followed up with a point from play.
Bobby Nugent got the final two scores of the first-half, sending Brigid’s into the break with a two point lead.
At half-time St Brigid’s were leading 0-9 to 0-7.
Paul Geaney opened the second-half scoring after just 17 seconds. Conor Hand replied for Brigid’s before Mark O Connor fired over a two-pointer bringing the sides level after 36 minutes.
Ruaidhri Fallon was fastest to palm a rebound to the Dingle net and raise the green flag for Brigid’s after 39 minutes, as they moved back into the lead.
Dingle fight back again
Dylan Geaney registered another two-pointer for Dingle before his brother Paul clipped over a free. That followed an incident were Brigid’s Pearse Frost received a black card.
Conor Hand and Tadgh Browne traded scores for both sides as Dingle moved into the lead approaching the 60 minute mark.
Shane Cunnane slotted over a 45, before a Paul Geaney kicked Dingle into a two-point lead in second-half injury time.
Ruaidhri Fallon then kicked an outstanding two pointer at the death to send the game to extra-time. As the whistle sounded at the end of normal time it finished St Brigid’s 1-14 to Dingles 0-17.
Ruaidhri Fallon got the opening two scores of extra-time with a point followed by a two pointer. Brigid’s moved into a three point lead.
Conor and Dylan Geaney got the final scores of the first period of extra time as Brigid’s took a one point to the break in extra time, leading 1-17 to 0-19.
Dylan Geaney got the opening score of the second period of extra-time, as the sides drew level again.
Shane Cunnane and Charlie O’Carroll scored consecutive points for Brigid’s as they moved back in to a two point lead with three minutes remaining in the second period of extra-time.
However, two Tom O’Sullivan points in the space of a minute drew proceedings level again.
Mikey Geaney kicked Dingle into the lead deep into injury time, as Dingle sealed the victory to claim the Andy Merrigan Cup.
St Brigid’s defeated by the minimum in the decider, 0-23 to 1-19.
