Last season’s runner-up Moore United were beaten 3–1 away to Shiven Rovers in the Norio’s Roscommon and District League Premier Division.
On a wet and windy night in Newbridge, the game began at a lively pace. Moore had the first real chance from a set piece, a powerful effort rattled the crossbar.
Shiven gradually settled into the game. After just 10 minutes Moore’s centre-half was sent-off for a second bookable offence.
In the 38th minute, Rory Cunningham capitalised on a mistake by the goalkeeper to give Shiven a deserved lead.
They carried that momentum into the second-half and were quickly rewarded when Stephen Murray fired home a superb strike after excellent work down the right wing.
Moore responded well and began to apply sustained pressure, eventually pulling a goal back with 20 minutes remaining through Sean Fortune.
Moore pushed hard for an equaliser, but Shiven’s defence stood firm. With Moore committing bodies forward, Stephen Murray latched onto a brilliant through ball late on to seal the points for Shiven.
Boyle Celtic share the lead with St Johns Athletic following a hard earned 2–2 draw away to Skyvalley Rovers.
This was a real battle between two evenly matched teams. Both teams had chances to take the lead with the hosts looking slightly the more likely to score.
All the action was reserved for the last eight minutes of normal time. Luke Glennon headed a Gerard McDermott Roe free kick to the Skyvalley Rovers net.
Within two minutes, Skyvalley Rovers were awarded a penalty, when Michael Garvey was pushed over in the penalty area.
Garry Canavan converted at the second attempt after the keeper saved his first attempt but was well off his line when kick was taken.
Skyvalley Rovers comeback to draw
Michael Corrigan was in the right place to restore the Boyle lead with two minutes remaining.
However, almost from the kick-off, the ball broke to Michael Garvey who lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper to equalise.
In Division 2, Glen Celtic went top of the table after beating Roscommon United second side 6-0 in tough condition at Glenamaddy.
Glen Celtic went in two up at half-time with goals from Dylan Joyce and Shay Mannion. The second-half was slightly one sided with Dylan Joyce scoring two, Conor Chapman and Peter Thomas Keaveney getting one each.
Ballinagare are still in the title race after beating Boyle Celtics second side 8–1 at Boyle.
Aaron Dowd scored five and Frankie Cregg, Barry Harte and Tom Ward added one each for Ballinagare. Louis Galvin pulled one back for the hosts.
Carrick Town beat Roscommon United 4–0 at Boyle.
Darra Pettit opened the scoring for the Carrick-on-Shannon side after 19 minutes and Narada Patrasco added a second two minutes later. Dylan Regan and Brandon Boyce added two more for the winners in the second-half.
Rahara Rovers were beaten at home by Moore United second side.
Moore were two-up after 30 minutes thanks to Christopher Kenny and Malcolm O'Hanlon. However, Rahara pulled one back before the break through Séamus Lynch after a great cross from Jack Crehan.
Jason Cunningham scored for Moore with 20 minutes remaining. Although Crehan hit the cross bar, the visitors held out to take the three points.
In the Connacht under-18 Girls Cup Dunmore Town had an impressive 3–0 win over Mervue United away at Galway.
Erika Diskin, Shannon Kilgarriff and Lily Concannon scored their goals.
All the remaining games were postponed due to the bad weather
