Roscommon opened their Connacht minor championship campaign with a 12-point win over Sligo.
The young rossie side were always in control and led nine points to five. Having taken a nine points to one lead on 20 minutes.
Luke Shally registered three of Roscommon’s nine first-half scores. Substitute Marc Shally added two second-half points with Sam Hannon added two (1f). The Rossies the stronger team winning out 20 points to eight.
Meanwhile a bad week for Leitrim football continued as Galway scored an 11-point opening night victory in Cloone.
Galway scored 3-19 to 2-11 win, Leitrim’s second goal coming 90 seconds before the final hooter.
Thomas Gunn found the net for Leitrim after 13 minutes, where Galway led 1-3 to 1-1. However the tribesmen powered onto a half-time lead 1-10 to 1-2.
With five minutes remaining Galway led 3-19 to 1-8. Senan Kelly’s point, a Daire McCabe goal and a Jack Moolick two-pointer put respectability on the scoreline. Galway winning out 3-19 to 2-11.
