Roscommon ladies football legend Natalie Flanagan admits organizers could have scheduled the Roscommon versus Westmeath game much better
Roscommon booked a place in the All-Ireland ladies intermediate final with a four point win over Westmeath. However, at exactly the same time Kerry overcame Dublin to make the All-Ireland football final.
“Today is chocker-block with sport between here, between Dublin, Wimbledon is on, the World Cup is on” Flanagan told Shannonside sport.
Flanagan, part of the Shannonside sport coverage of the All-Ireland ladies intermediate semi-final and tried to give a balance approached.
“It is absolutely chocker-block. So, it would be impossible to try and cover everything”.
However, the scheduling of the game was a huge talking point. Particularly because the organizers scheduled the game to clash directly with the Kerry v Dublin All-Ireland semi-final. Resulting in a sparse crowd in attendance in Breffni Park.
“That would come down to the county board officials. They have their master set of fixtures, that are done up at the start of the year. I'm sure they're aware of how clashes can occur” added Flanagan.
“There's a double header that the other side of these competitions are happening at the exact same times as well on the other side”. – Fermanagh v Down and All-Ireland junior semi-final Antrim versus Sligo in Clones.
“So, The idea of having them at the same time, I don't know how it has come to pass and particularly with all the talk about integration”,
“How we have this happening at the same time, it just leaves a little bit to be desired” added Flanagan. But here we are and here we're doing it”.
