Roscommon ladies advance to All-Ireland quarter-final

Roscommon scored a 2-13 to 1-12 win over Down to book a quarter-final spot.

They will be joined by Monaghan, Wexford, Down and Fermanagh booked quarter-final places in the TG4 All-Ireland intermediate championship. Along with Westmeath, Clare and Leitrim in the last eight.

Whereas, reigning TG4 All-Ireland champions Dublin and both of last year’s beaten semi-finalists Galway and Kerry have booked home quarter-finals in the race for the Brendan Martin Cup.

Goals from Niamh Hetherton and Caoimhe O’Connor in a strong second-half, powered Dublin to a 2-13 to 0-5 win over Donegal. The Dubs, having led by 0-6 to 0-4 at the break.

Eva Gallagher scored four points for Donegal who will now face Mayo next weekend. This will decide which other team advances from Group 3 to the knockout stages.

Danielle O’Leary scored 1-3 as Kerry booked home advantage in the last eight. They saw off Kildare 1-19 to 0-8 in Newbridge, having built up a 1-9 to 0-3 lead in the first-half.

Aoife Rattigan and Molly Aspell scored seven points between them for a Kildare side who face Tipperary next weekend. A quarter-final place will be on the line.

Galway also made it two wins in a row as Olivia Divilly hit 2-6 and Róisín Leonard got 1-6 as they ousted Tyrone by 4-20 to 2-7 in Tuam. Galway, whose other goal came from Leanne Coen, led by 1-8 to 2-2 at the break.

All-Ireland quarter-final line-up takes shape

Niamh O’Neill and Sorcha Gormally scored all but two points of Tyrone’s tally. They face Meath next weekend with the winners advancing to the quarter-finals.

There was late drama in Dungarvan when Cork. The reigning Lidl Division One league champions, came from five points down with seven minutes remaining to pip Waterford 1-15 to 1-14.

Waterford, who now head to Armagh next weekend with all three teams in Group 1 still in contention, led by 1-8 to 0-4 at the break thanks to a goal from Karen McGrath but got caught at the death with Katie Quirke scoring a late penalty before then hitting the winner with five seconds remaining.

Roscommon booked their place in the quarter-finals of the TG4 All-Ireland intermediate championship.

Results: TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship; Group 1: Cork 1-15 Waterford 1-14, Group 2: Kerry 1-19 Kildare 0-3; Group 3: Dublin 2-13 Donegal 0-5, Group 4: Galway 4-20 Tyrone 2-7.

TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate Championship: Group 1: Roscommon 2-13 Down 1-12, Group 2: Monaghan 1-10 Louth 0-9, Group 3: Wexford 5-12 Laois 2-14, Group 4: Fermanagh 2-18 Wicklow 1-7.

TG4 All-Ireland Junior Championship:  Group A: Derry 6-10 Longford 0-10, Offaly 5-27 Kilkenny 0-3. Group B: Limerick 2-20 London 0-1, Carlow 2-14 Sligo 0-10.
