There were mixed fortunes for teams in the Shannonside Region this afternoon in the Allianz National Hurling League.
Roscommon ran out two point winners over Sligo in Division three. The meeting with Sligo was switched from King & Moffatt Dr. Hyde Park to Bekan this morning.
Roscommon were eight points down after 25 minutes, responded through a Conor Mulry goal on 33 minutes. Mulry, Robbie Fallon and Cathal Kenny all scored points leaving the sides tied at 1-7 apiece at half-time.
Points from Eoin Fitzgerald and Ben McGahon kept Roscommon in what was a tight second-half. Sligo led by two with two minute remaining, before Cathal Kenny popped up with a Roscommon goal.
Conor Cosgrove added a point in injury time extending the lead, as Roscommon ran out 2-15 to 2-13 winners.
A bad week for Leitrim GAA
Elsewhere, Leitrim fell to a heavy 19 point defeat to Warwickshire at the Connacht GAA Centre in Division four.
Joe Murray levelled proceedings up after nine minutes but that was as good as it got for Leitrim.
Goals from Eoghan O’Sullivan, Miley Connors and Jon Collins helped the visitors to a 16 point half-time lead.
Joe Murray got the opening score of the second-half for Leitrim, but it was another 16 minutes before Leitrim got their next point through Martin Feeney. At this stage Leitrim trailed by 15 points.
Further points form Oisin Slattery and Miley Connors extended the visitors lead. Points from Joe Murray and Connor McLoughlin came a little too late before Warwickshire notched their fourth goal.
Warwickshire winning out 4-14 to seven points.
Whereas, Longford were five point victors over Monaghan in division four, played at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
Martin Farrell helped the hosts into an early three point lead. Deaglan Crowe and Niall Garland replied for the visitors. However, Killian Courtney and Evan Tully both found the Monaghan net soon after.
Longford were in a commanding 13 point lead at half-time.
David Buckley raised the green flag for Longford again on 43 minutes. Monaghan scored a flurry of unanswered points before Niall Garland scored Monaghan’s first goal of the contest.
John Treanor landed Monaghan’s second goal of the contest, followed quickly by a Deaglan Crowe point further reducing the deficit. Reuben Murray responded with a point for Longford helping see out the victory.
