Roscommon hurlers' summer is over.

The Roscommon hurlers bowed out of the Christy Ring Cup at the quarter-final stages losing 2-18 to 1-20 to Sligo at Dr. Hyde Park.

The hosts led 0-15 to 0-14 at half-time with Cathal Dolan accounting for half of the Rossies tally while Ben McGahon, Cathal Kenny, Conor Mulry and Niall Kilroy were also to the fore.

Two minutes after the restart, Cathal Kenny found the net before Mark Hannify replied with a goal for Sligo 14 minutes later.

Roscommon were handed a major lifeline on 57 minutes when Conor Hannify was shown a straight red card and Sligo had to see out the contest with 14 men.

Roscommon held a two point buffer deep into injury time before Mark Hannify broke their hearts with a last-gasp goal moments later.

Sligo ran out one point winners and are now headed for the Christy Ring Cup semi-finals.
