18-point win see's Roscommon land sixth FBD title

Roscommon landed the FBD League title with a totally domineering display and 18 point victory.

Davy Burke’s side cruised to a sixth FBD title, winning out 2-25 to 13 points against in effect a Galway third string.

Roscommon were dominant from the off in the air dome. Dylan Ruane (mark) and frees from Diarmuird Murtagh and Conor Cox had the rossies three points to one ahead on five minutes.

Cian Connolly added a fourth point before Eoghan McCormack rattled in an eighth minute goal.

Galway responded with scores either side of Cathal Heneghan's 10th minute point, but Roscommon stormed forward.

Ciaran Lennon, Adam McDermott 0-2, Niall Higgins, Dylan Ruane, Heneghan and Cox had the rossies 12 points clear on 23 minutes.

Two Galway frees from and O'Currain from play brought Galway to six points. Donie Smith from play and a free had Roscommon 1-14 to six ahead at half-time.

The Rossies picked up where they left off after the restart. Heneghan, Declan Kenny and Andrew Glennon moved the rossies 1-17 to six clear on 44 minutes.

Cillian O'Currain opened the Galway sides scoring on 47 minutes. Glennon responded immediately. O'Currain pulled one back for Galway in response.

But that was as good as it got for the tribesmen. Jack Duggan, Dylan Ruane and Dylan Lambe moving Roscommon 1-21 to eight points clear.

Cian Darcy got Galway's first point in 11 minutes, Ciaran Lennon restored the Rossies lead.

O'Currain and Donie Smith (free) exchanged scores as the match dropped to training match speed.

With the clock counting down, Burke's side worked the ball well across the pitch with Enda Smith placing the ball in the net.

O’Currain added three further frees to bring his tally to 10, but Roscommon had the last action on the scoreboard.

A Daire Cregg free and one from play in injury in time saw Roscommon claim victory 2-25 to 0-13.
