Roscommon have won the Connacht minor football championship with a dramatic two point win over Mayo.
Goals from John Price and Darragh Curran helped Roscommon on their way to a 2-14 to 1-15 victory.
Mayo got off to an incredible start as Tony Carey rattled the Roscommon net in the second minute.
Luke Shally and a Dean Casey free had Roscommon back within a point on nine minutes. A 13th minute Ben Holmes free moved Mayo two points ahead.
Tony Carey landed his first point of the game moments later to restore Mayo's three point lead.
However, the rossies responded excellently John Price raised onto a long breaking ball and finishing to the Mayo net. Price's goal levelling the game at 1-2 each on 21 minutes.
Adam Kelly converted a two-point free two minutes later as Dean Casey replied with a two-point free two minutes later.
Roscommon hit the break in the lead with three points in a row with two from John Price and one from Adam Killeen. Roscommon leading 1-7 to 1-4 at half-time.
Mayo came out with all guns blazing and were level six minutes into the second-half.
Points from Conor Hession, Ben Holmes and Tony Carey had the side’s level 1-7 each after 36 minutes. Hession and Carey combined to move Mayo two clear after 40 minutes.
Roscommon fight back to win
Christopher Feerick sent over a much need Roscommon point three minutes later. Roscommon’s first score of the second-half.
Mayo replied expertly through points from Carey, Hession and Darragh Flannagan to lead 1-12 to 1-8 entering the final quarter.
However, the Rossies weren’t done. John Price and Seamie Carthy scored a point each to make it a two-point game with nine minutes to play.
Fiachra O’Cinnseala restored Mayo’s three point lead after a well worked 45. Indeed it wasn’t enough for the Mayo men with six minutes remaining.
Dean Casey brought the game back to points a minute later. Two minutes later Casey slotted over a 2-point free to level the game.
Roscommon drove for the finish line. Darragh Curran turned the ball into the net as the Rossies suddenly led 2-13 to 1-13 with 90 seconds remaining.
Mayo fought to the end Ben Holmes and Dara Flanagan making it a one point game in the first minute of injury time.
However, up stepped Dean Casey to punish a technical breach and give the rossies the Connacht minor championship. Roscommon 2-14 Mayo 1-15.
