A late Galway comeback, left Roscommon short of a semi-final as the sides shared the spoils in Tuam.
Colm Costello’s late two point free saw the side’s draw 1-11 to 14-points as the Connacht U20 championship goes to the final day.
The Rossies bossed the game for long periods, even allowing to fall behind to an early goal. Mikey Mulryan having found the Roscommon net in the opening seconds.
Galway added just two further points as Roscommon led 1-8 to 0-2 at half-time. A Rory Carthy 2-pointer and two one-point free’s. Along with points from John Curran, Niall Heneghan and a Ryan Dowling had Roscommon nine points ahead at half-time.
Dowling’s second point, Roscommon’s eighth was tipped over the bar by Kyle Gilmore. Two Colm Costello frees bringing Galway to five points at the break.
Galway fought back in the second half through two points from Costello (1f), Ross Coen 2-pointer and an Eanna Monaghan free. Roscommon responded well through Rory Carthy and with Conor Kelly grabbing two points.
Frees from Dowling and Carthy moved Roscommon four clear with 10 minutes to play. A free and a point from play from Costello brought the game back to two points heading into injury time.
Costello converted a 2-point free in the third minute of injury time to see a share of the spoils.
The draw means; if Roscommon draw or beat Leitrim, they will qualify for the Connacht semi-finals. Thus, eliminating a Galway side that won the 2022 All-Ireland minor final.
