Preview Allianz league division two: Roscommon v Galway

Roscommon v Galway, take one of three or game over for Roscommon?

A point should be enough to bring Roscommon into the division two final and a meeting next Sunday with guess who? Galway.

Could that be the Connacht final line-up of 2022 also?

On the other hand it’s six wins from six for Galway, if they keep their 100% record intact that it’s goodnight to the rossies.

Anthony Cunningham’s side have a yo-yo story behind them. Cunningham will be happy to yo-yo again this year. The 2022 vintage of Roscommon has turned some heads.

Richard Hughes has had a breakthrough year. Eddie Nolan has developed into a hard working centre-fielder. The perfect anchor to Ultan Harney.

Cian McKeon and Donie Smith are two big hard men in the full-forward line, the physical machine for Conor Cox. Ciaran Murtagh, Enda Smith and Niall Kilroy have had their scoring boots on this season.

There’s plenty of optimism for Anthony Cunningham but this game may hinge on Galway.

Monaghan sent Galway down last year with a last-gasp extra-time winner. The defeat hurt Padraig Joyce. Now six wins later they will return to division one at the first attempt.

Now Joyce has a choice. Rest his starting 15 with an eye on doing Roscommon in the final! Or bury Roscommon ahead of the Connacht championship and condemn them to division two.

Don’t expect fireworks here. If it’s two sets of first 15's and the game is close, Galway minds will wander to the Croke Park date.

More than likely Roscommon will have one good spell in the game and seal a win.
