Poor weekend for Shannonside teams in the Allianz football league

Roscommon and Longford suffered defeats while Leitrim failed to field

Roscommon's hopes of making a return to Allianz League Division one hit a major stumbling block on Sunday with defeat to Cavan.

The two point victory for the visitors to King and Moffatt Dr. Hyde Park, has put Cavan in a position to claim the promotion spot.

Indeed, Cavan are now level on eight points with the Rossies and Meath, who lost out to Monaghan. The farney are top of the Division 2 table on 10 points.

Speaking to Willie Hegarty, Roscommon Manager Davy Burke remarked that his side’s league campaign is over ahead of next week’s trip to Mullingar to take on the already relegated Westmeath.

In Division 3, Carlow surged past Longford by 12 points with a dominate first-half performance. Indeed, Longford came back in the second-half to put some respectability on the score-line as Carlow won out two-20 to 14 points.

Whereas, Carlow had led 2-13 to two points at half-time. Longford boss Mike Solan, couldn't put his finger on what went wrong in the first half.

Leitrim meanwhile conceded their game with Fermanagh, stating they did not have enough fit players to ful-fill the fixture.
