Leitrim have had a tough time in division three. Sitting bottom of the table with four defeats in a row as Offaly made the trip to Ballinamore.
Offaly managed to fight their way back into the game, equalising on 28 minutes. Cathal Flynn gave the visitors the lead for the first time on 35 minutes.
However, the game swung in Offaly’s favour in first-half injury time.
John Furlong fisted a falling two pointer into the back of the net to give Offaly daylight going into the break. The Leitrim defence appealed for a square ball but the referee waved the protests away.
Offaly slowed the game down in the second-half and kept control of the scoreboard against the young Leitrim side.
Darren Cox rifled the ball into the back of the net to make it a two point game with 10 minutes remaining.
However, the Leitrim momentum was short lived, as Paddy Dunican and Keith O’Neill added a score each to secure the points for Offaly, who inflict Leitrim’s fifth defeat of the campaign.
