Mayo were made to work for their victory over Leitrim this afternoon. Matthew Ruane was quick to open scoring for Mayo; Darren Cox and Barry McNultys two pointer putting the hosts ahead.
Ryan O’Donoghue got his first point of the day, but again Barry McNulty responded with another two pointer for Leitrim to keep Leitrims early lead intact.
Darren McHale and Jack Carney added further Mayo points as Leitrim replied through McNulty yet again. A 45 meter free from Colm Reape and a Ryan O Donoghue point ensuring Mayo’s lead stayed intact.
A Darren Cox point from play was the last act of the first half as Leitrim trailed by a single point. Mayo leading on a score line of 0-8 to 0-7 following a spirited first half showing from Leitrim.
Following the commencement of play in the second half Ryan O Donoghue and Barry McNulty traded scores again. O’Donoghue now finding his form with his fourth of the day.
Jordan Flynn and O’Donoghue were on target again for Mayo as Leitrim responded through Rioradan O’Rourke then Tom Prior as Mayo held onto their one point advantage.
Mayo hit six unanswered points before Barry McNulty responded with his third two pointer for Leitrim with 57 minutes played. Tom Prior soon added what turned out to be Leitrim’s final score of the day with 59 minutes played.
Further points from Jordan Flynn and Ryan O Donoghue brought the action to an end as they progressed to the Connacht Final, albeit defeating a much improved home side in Leitrim.
