Leitrim narrowly lost out as Louth recorded a 1-16 to 2-11 victory.

Longford’s division 3A campaign got off to a nightmare start as they lost by 11 points to Armagh at the Athletic Grounds. Armagh was by far the better side winning 2-21 to 0-16.

The hosts began the game in explosive fashion and a goal each from Oisin Keenan and Danny Magee saw them lead by seven points after only ten minutes.

Longford found scores hard to come by in the opening half and were somewhat reliant on Joe O’Brien’s accuracy from placed balls but they still trailed 2-11 to six points at half-time.

Both sides then scored ten points each after the restart but Armagh still ran out convincing winners in the end.

Meanwhile, Leitrim tasted defeat in their division 3B opener against Louth at Avant Money Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada.

Louth led ten points to six at the break and despite Leitrim gaining the upper hand after that, a strong finish saw Louth emerge victorious

Only a solitary point separated the sides at the first water break before the visitors outscored their opponents six points to three in the next quarter.

Leitrim made the better start to the second half and a brace of goals saw them lead by two points at the next water break.

Louth then finished with a flourish and a Paul Matthews goal helped them to a two point win.
