A late Troy Tiernan free helped Longford to a share of the spoils as their Leinster minor championship defence began.
The hosts got off to a strong start. Points from James Flynn, Troy Tiernan, Billy Maguire and Liam Greene helped the hosts to a five point lead without reply.
However, Kildare were quick to respond through goals from Hugh Martin and Rory Thompson. Troy Tiernan added another two points before half-time for Longford, as the hosts trailed by four at the break.
Brendan Martin got in on the scoring act early in the second-half for Longford. Kildare replied with a two pointer, with what turned out to be their only score of the half.
Further points from Brendan Martin and Ray McNally kept the hosts in touching distance. A Troy Tiernan free levelled the contest on the stroke of full-time. It finished on a score line of Longford 0-14 Kildare 2-8.
