Third quarter display see's Killoe to victory

Killoe produced a third-quarter drubbing to effectively book their place in the Longford SFC quarter-finals.

Jimmy Higgins side surged to victory scoring 1-7 in the third-quarter to see off Dromard 2-13 to 2-6 in Monaduff.

In a cagey and sloppy first-half it would take four minutes for the scoreboard to turn over. When it did it was caused by the raising of a Dromard green flag.

William McEntire shot’s was spilled onto the post by Killoe keeper Michael Hughes. Conor McGauran collected the rebound but saw his shot cleared off the line.

Ronan Corcoran pounced to finish to the net.

Indeed, Killoe’s response was excellent. The returning Ryan Moffett causing havoc in the Dromard defence and laying the ball off to Paddy Kiernan to land a goal.

However, the game changed when Dromard keeper Ollie Duffy was replaced after a head injury following a scramble in the box. Dromard missed the keepers influence in the games remainder.

Indeed, Diamuid Masterson converted two frees to equalise and put Dromard ahead on 24 minutes. A Moran free and one from play saw Killoe lead 1-4 to 1-3.

Masterson should have sent the sides in level at half-time. However, remarkably Masterson put a free wide from right under the posts inside the 15-metre line.

Killoe made the north Longford side pay for the miss immediately. Two minutes into the second-half Paddy Moran was in for Killoe’s second goal. His initial shot was stopped on the line before Paddy Moran followed it home.
